Abbott House
The first superintendent of The Pacific Division of the Canadian Pacific Railway, Harry B. Abbott was a prominent figure in the development of Vancouver. The house was built in 1900 in the heart of the The West End’s “Blueblood Alley”, Vancouver’s first prestigious residential neighbourhood. Originally clad in wood lap siding and cedar shingles, the design of the Abbott House features a curved bay facing Georgia Street, overhanging eaves and a central gable featuring a remarkable art glass-window, below which extends a large porch with round columns and a wood railing. The house’s restoration and the re-creation of a period garden was completed in 1997 as part of the adjacent large-scale development.
