This plague is on the first floor of Benton Hall at the University of Missouri – St. Louis (1 University Blvd., St. Louis, Missouri, 63121) across from B111.
This plaque is about Thomas Hart Benton. If you read the plaque, it explains how Benton was a “great statesman” of Missouri. He believed that St. Louis was a great city and he supported many of the movements during his time. They dedicated the first new building ever to be built on this campus to him. This building is the home to the Biology, Chemistry, and Physics departments and is the hub of scientific life on campus. Later on, the University built the Research building and Stadler Hall which are attached to Benton. These three buildings are the center of life and discovery for UMSL and it is my little home. Reading about Benton has helped me understand the importance of knowing about history and knowing why things are named what they are named.
Stay curious and always read the plaque.
