The Winecoff Fire
At the corner of Peachtree and Ellis streets in downtown Atlanta is a massive pedestrian tunnel into the underground Peachtree Center MARTA station; the escalators descending to the platform is said to be the longest in the South. At the northern end of the surrounding plaza sits this plaque.
67 years after the deadliest fire in American history, the former Winecoff Hotel still stands behind this sign.
