Built in 1929 the Miller-Roy Building, a vibrant hub for Monroe's African American owned business community, was also home to the illustrious Savoy Ballroom, as a stop on the renowned "Chitlin Circuit". This historic venue hosted performances by international music icons Louis Armstrong, Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald, Lena Horne, Billie Holiday, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Ethel Waters, Duke Ellington, Ivory Joe Hunter & many more.
