This plaque at Kingswood Junction, the start of the southern section of the Stratford Canal, pays tribute to those who worked to restore the canal in the early 1960s, and particularly David Hutchings who managed the complex project. The story is well told in a book published in 1983 by David & Charles: 'Save the Stratford Canal' by Guy Johnson. The full quotation, incidentally, which originally appeared in a brochure for the opening rally, read: 'Those who were to do the job had nothing and knew nothing but they began with one overwhelming advantage, they were not experts and therefore did not know what could not be done'.
