Rockin' Dopsie (1932-1993)

Born in Carencro, Alton Rubin was a leading zydeco musician and crowd-pleasing performed who played to enthusiastic crowds at concerts and festivals throughout Europe and the Untied States. Dopsie began performing professionally in the late 1940s in Lafayette. He recorded on several labels, playing accordion and singing in his native Creole French. He played on Paul Simon's album Graceland (1986) and is credited with the song, "That Was Your Mother." His last album, Louisiana Music, received a Grammy nomination in 1991.   Rockin' Dopsie died from heart failure in 1993 but his band, The Twisters, continue to perform, led by his son Dopsie Jr. on accordion and washboard.
