The An Turas is a ferry shelter commissioned by Tiree Arts Enterprise and sponsored by the Scottish Arts Council NM0445 : Cattle holding pen and An TurasNM0445 : The view from An Turas. It was intended to serve as a shelter and a sculpture to stimulate imagination by evoking the sensations of the island. It is in the form of a tunnel that has been described as bizarrely unusual, an outstanding example of architecture and generally useless. It was conceived in three parts - a white-walled tunnel, open to the sky, but sheltered from the wind; a bridge, protected from the top and sides, but open to the rock and sand of the beach below; and a glass box which is completely enclosed, but provides a panorama across Gott Bay.
