New York Aquarium / Sustainably Harvested Wood

Look Down V You're standing on sustainably harvested wood   We're taking steps to protect the tropical rainforest. Practicing responsible forestry helps maintain critical habitat for wildlife.   Our wood source We work with one of the world's best managed forests, located in Uaxactún [wa-shuck-TOON] Guatemala.

Isn't harvesting trees bad? Not in this case! Most timber harvesting clears large sections of forest, but the Uaxactun community only harvests select trees each year using low-impact methods. This maintains the health of the forest and provides jobs to the local people.

We are exploring uses for this wood at all of our facilities taking steps forward in global conservation.
