These two churches offered spiritual guidance to the Atlanta University students and, during the Civil Rights movement, supported activities such as voter registration drives. Found as Little Rock Baptist Church in 1913, Mount Moriah was renamed by Rev. W. H. Brown in 1915. Established in 1874, Warren Memorial moved here in 1944. In 1960, Southern student activists gathered at Mount Mariah and pledged to continue their protest, as the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee, SNCC and other civil rights leaders rallied for equal rights at Warren Memorial throughout the 1960s.
