These two dedication markers can be found at the corner of Peachtree Street and Carnegie Way in downtown Atlanta, near the entrance of the Peachtree Center MARTA station. The author knows nothing about the building these inscriptions were attached to beyond what can be assumed at face value: it was constructed in 1889, and clearly has long since been demolished.

The inscriptions read:

“J.N. Smith’s building commenced 100 years since Geo. Washington’s inauguration as first president. Paul says ‘owe no man.’ Let posterity heed his advice.”

“This is the house that Jack built.”
