Iron for Gold Dedicated to Richard “Dick” Zembiec Long-time Minerals Office (1984 - 2000) for Tahoe National Forest The collection of early minis equipment fulfills one of Dick’s long-term wishes, to be able to show some of the equipment used to extract valuable minerals from the earth in this area. While mining may no longer play the dominant role that it once did for the local economy, much of the nation’s wealth and prosperity derives from its mineral wealth. This collection of tools and equipment used in local mines dramatically shows the investment in capital, sweat, and sheer ingenuity used by miners to follow their dreams of wealth.
