Honoring the Fictional Dead from The Maltese Falcon
This is the only plaque I’ve ever seen dedicated to the death of a minor fictional character. It’s found at the mouth of Burritt Alley in San Francisco. It says: “On approximately this spot, Miles Archer, partner of Sam Spade, was done in by Brigid O’Shaughnessy.” The one downside to the plaque: it spoils the mystery for anyone who hasn’t read it or seen the Humphrey Bogart movie.
