Historic site of Mel's Bowl Sign
AN ICONIC REDWOOD CITY SIGN
The Mel's Bowl sign was once located on this site.
Influenced by car culture, jets, the space age and the atomic age,
the sign's Googie style was an important form of Mid-20th century
modern architecture, and was prevalent along El Camino Real
during its rapid development in the Post World War II era.
Long after the bowling alley changed ownership,
the Mel's Bowl sign remained an iconic marker for
Redwood City. The sign was restored and relocated to
215 El Camino in Redwood City in 2013.
