This plaque is attached to a rock next to a now quite large tree in a triangle of grass in an intersection off the main drag of downtown Naugatuck, CT. At the intersection, Rockwell Ave. meets Salem St. at a sharp angle. The plaque says, “this tree was planted in 1911 by the property owners of Rockwell Avenue as an expression of appreciation to Harris Whittemore for the interest and financial assistance he rendered grading and improving Salem Street and Rockwell Avenue. After his death November 29th 1927 this tablet was placed here as an enduring acknowledgement of one of his many kind and helpful deeds of the improvement of Naugatuck.”
