Garrard´s Cavalry, having left Villanow, May 14, 1864, passed Floyd Springs May 15, enroute to Farmer´s Bridge & Rome. After scouting toward Rome, the Cav. withdrew & camped here.

May 16. Returning toward Lay´s Ferry (near Resaca), Garrard met Davis´ (2d) div. 14th A.C. enroute S. to Rome. Garrard informed Davis that Farmer´s Bridge, 8mi. N. of Rome, was at Armuchee Cr., not an Oostanaula River crossing. This was news to Davis, who had been informed otherwise due to confusing reports at headquarters.

Davis´ march from Resaca to Rome was predicated on a river crossing at Farmer´s Bridge.
