The plaque on the Habit Link at the northern end of the street records that in 1101, houses were built within the outer bailey of Bridgnorth Castle, forming the original East and West Castle Streets. The present street was developed in 1786 by Dr Anthony Weaver, who owned most of the street. The Thomas Telford designed church St Mary Magdalene Link was built (at the southern end of the street) between 1792-1796.
