On the plaza, in front of this building, formerly the Presidential Headquarters of the First Philippine Republic, General Antonio Luna and his aide Colonel Francisco Roman were assasinated in the afternoon of 5 June 1899, by members of General Emilio Aguinaldo's presidential guard.
