Bronze plaque on the plinth of Carnegie's statue in Pittencrieff Park

Beneath Dunfermline's heraldic motto 'Esto rupes inaccessa' (Be an inaccessable rock) it reads: Andrew Carnegie - Born in Dunfermline 26th November 1835 - Having achieved great success in business in the United States of America he devoted his fortune to the good of mankind - This monument is erected by his fellow citizens in grateful appreciation of his many gifts to his native city - AD1914.
