1885 Dynamite Explosion -Mangled Beyond Description
Located just east of Peterborough Ontario Canada, this rather morbid plaque commemorates an unfortunate local disaster. In 1885,dynamite being hauled in a wagon spontaneously exploded and was heard from a great distance away, leaving mangled beyond recognition horses and men.
A large crowd gathered at the remote site, and according to the plaque, for the curious: “Every few minutes something more fresh and sickening befell them”.
