Aug. 30, 1864. Federal forces, having cut the A. & W.P.R.R. at Red Oak & Fairburn, moved by several columns on various roads toward the Macon R. R., on an eight mile front; Howard´s Tennessee Army on the right; the 4th & 14th A. C. of the Cumberland Army (Thomas) at center and Schofield´s 23d Corps on the left.

Davis´ 14th marched via Shoal Creek Ch., where Baird´s Div. moved to Couch´s (at Riverdale) via the Marcus Long house; Morgan´s & Carlin´s, S.E. to Evans´ farm on Camp Creek (just W. of here).

Sept. 1. From the Fayetteville Rd., the 14th A. C. moved to the 2d of battle at Jonesboro.
