Whidden Hall (A McMaster University student residence)

WHIDDEN HALL

From 1923 until 1941 Howard P. Whidden, a man of distinguished appearance and firm convictions, was the executive head of McMaster University, a position then bearing the title Chancellor.

Dr. Whidden’s tenure of office spanned the period of the university’s uprooting from Toronto and its establishment in Hamilton. The problems associated with this transition were manifold, and their successful resolution was in large measure due to Dr. Whidden’s unusual talents.

Whidden Hall was opened in 1961. A few years earlier the Whidden Lectures of the University were established in remembrance of Dr. Whidden’s service and leadership.
