The first project of the Fort Langley Community Improvement Society after its foundation in 1924 was the replacement of the old town hall with a new larger building. The following year the old hall and grounds were bought from the municipality for $137.13, the amount of the tax bill still owing. The directors hired architect Archibald Campbell Hope (brother of Charles Edward Hope) to design a new community hall. Construction commenced in 1930, and an Inaugural Ball was held on March 6, 1931. That same year, the trees along the south line of the property were planted by the Society’s women, while those along the north line were planted by its men. The building remains in the ownership of the society, and is a testament to their long-range vision and community spirit.
